8is.art pairs that id with the address in the memo and hashes the two into a seed. The seed decides the piece. Nothing on chain produced it, and nothing off chain could have known it before the payment cleared.
Every piece on this page is drawn in your browser from the same hash the contract uses, down to the byte. A transaction id that isn’t already a 32 byte hex value is hashed to one first.
